Whether you are a small home-based business, or a large corporation, there are
things that you can do to make your business environmentally friendly.
1) Recycling: this is one of the first things that comes to mind, but is one
of the easiest and effective ways to do your part. Most businesses have a printer/copier,
and most people make mistakes when using them, so why not recycle your mistakes,
(if only we could do that elsewhere).
2) Turn off equipment: At the end of the day shut your computer off, unplug your
desk lamps, calculator and anything else that may be drawing power. This can
reduce energy used by 25%.
3) Reduce the amount of printable material: read emails on screen before determining
if they should be printed, use an online fax service rather than a fax machine,
and produce double sided documents if you have to print something. Also, choose
recycled paper when buying printer paper.
4) Office Equipment: Before going out and buying all new office equipment, see
if your current stuff can be refurbished. This will save room in the landfill
as well as your pocket!
5) Other Green Businesses: Find other businesses in your community that have
green policies and can help you while also helping the environment. Also, staying
local will save on gas and green house gas emissions.
